Trans-species Mourning and Grief

Elephant Mourning

It seems as though as we connect with different animal species at a more intimate level we are able to communicate with them with such depth that the illusion of separation slowly dissipates. This article concerning mourning and grief of elephants with a human called “the elephant whisperer” is one stunning example of the depth of such deep communication.

The life of Lawrence Anthony is a testimony to a depth of trans-species communication, respect and love that goes beyond our minds limited perceptions of what is possible.

The blog post on delightmaker asks the right questions as stated here “So, how after Anthony’s death, did the reserve’s elephants — grazing miles away in distant parts of the park — know? “A good man died suddenly,” says Rabbi Leila Gal Berner, Ph.D., “and from miles and miles away, two herds of elephants, sensing that they had lost a beloved human friend, moved in a solemn, almost ‘funereal’ procession to make a call on the bereaved family at the deceased man’s home.” The blog, delightmaker also states ““If there ever were a time, when we can truly sense the wondrous ‘interconnectedness of all beings,’ it is when we reflect on the elephants of Thula Thula. A man’s heart’s stops, and hundreds of elephants’ hearts are grieving. This man’s oh-so-abundantly loving heart offered healing to these elephants, and now, they came to pay loving homage to their friend.””

From my limited, exploratory perspective, this is one further documentation of my “Trans-species Field Theory (c) and my thoughts on the potential of a “love particle” (c) that may be formed from the instant when the energy of love turns into a potential form of matter of love through the thoughts and emotions of that connection. The research and concepts at Heartmath may also be appreciated as truly being “trans-species” as is seen in this example of elephants recognizing the death of a beloved human and traveling so far to connect at that moment. The levels of interspecies communication and their potential implicatons are only being glimpsed from our limited three dimensional perspective. We need to witness and experience these connections to become aware of their existence. The potential of where that can lead all living beings is unlimited. If we create a space of inner silence, quiet within our hearts and allow a spacious emptiness of love and compassion to arise out of that to connect with all beings, perhaps there can be a global shift back to a living garden of eden here and now.

Science of Interconnectedness

: Creation of a Trans-species Field

Another essential foundation of The Kindred Spirits Project focuses on how the awareness and personal experience of the interconnectedness of all beings can bring about a further evolution in the development of a more compassionate society. I have been proposing that a “trans-species field (TM) exists when different beings interact with each other. I call this the Trans-species Field Theory (TM). I personally believe this is part of the feeling of unconditional love (or not) between us and our animal companions. There are different variations on the theme of these concepts from scientist Lynn McTaggert’s book “The Field”, to Rupert Sheldrakes theory of “Morphic Fields” and Morphic Resonance. They seem to have as a commonality of resonant frequencies. It seems that everything that exists in matter has both a physical appearance as well as a vibrational frequency, a field that it emanates. When two fields interact, it like two tuning forks interacting with each other. We tend to feel more comfortable in fields that resonate with us and not so comfortable in fields that are dissonant to our resonant frequency. In previous posts, I actually posit that humans may actually be subdividing into different “sub-species” based on whether we resonate with the quieter frequencies of nature and animals or if more and more of us are resonating with the vibrational frequencies of motors and electronics.

I was pleased to see this interview titled “The Science of Interconnectedness” in Superconsciousness Magazine with pioneering biologist Rupert Sheldrake. Years ago we briefly connected while facilitating different workshops at the same retreat center. Sheldrake states that “Morphic resonance is the way that things tune into each other. It works on the basis of similarity, the same principle as ordinary resonance”. He offers the analogies that “Many modern technologies work on resonance; radio and television are both resonant technologies. For instance, radio works because we tune into the specific frequency of a particular radio station, say 99.8 on your FM receiver. However, the room that you are currently standing in is filled with countless frequencies, including radio, television, and mobile phone transmissions. The reason we do not become overwhelmed is because we are not specifically tuned into their specific frequencies.”

This is the basis for cliche’s like “I do or do not resonate with you”, “good vibrations”, “that person gives off good or bad vibes”, etc. These vibrational frequencies may be why some people are so agitated in cities and feel so comfortable in nature. There are an infinite number of vibrational frequencies in cities from the vibration of all the living beings, the vibrations of all the radio, tv, internet, wireless, phone, smart meters etc. bombarding our own personal field continuously. Some posit that being bombarded by all these vibrational frequencies may be one cause of “dis-ease”, the lack of ease that we feel when we are in dissonant fields. Interestingly though, there are some people that seem to have adapted to living in the midst of all these fields and feel uncomfortable when just being in nature. They seem to be actually more comfortable in the midst of all the hustle and bustle and all the fields. Other people do not seem to recognize that they are vibrating differently when in a city, they simple feel more irritable, impatient, angry, frustrated or other emotions that can manifest when we are not in a place of inner peace.

There may also be larger fields that encompass not only all beings, but our entire planet and even perhaps the universe. Some have called these larger fields the information field, the Akashic Record, the collective consciousness which we also discussed in previous posts. Sheldrake proposes that the Morphic resonant field is ” a kind of collective memory. Every member of a species draws upon the collective memory of that species, and in turn contributes to it. You could say it’s like a collective consciousness, but actually it’s more like the collective unconscious. We’re always tuning into it and contributing to it, so it’s a bit like the idea of the collective unconscious put forward by the psychologist C.G. Jung.”

There are smaller and larger resonant fields. Different species are a manifestation of their species resonant field. I feel that there are new continuously evolving fields when different beings get together. I find that each place where humans and animals interact creates their own “trans-species field (TM) whether it be a horse barn, animal shelter, animal hospital, zoo etc. That may be why one feels quite different in different places of human animal interactions. Do you notice that in different places where you share time with animals? How would you describe that?

Sheldrake further “suggests that the form the energy takes is determined, bound with, and organized by the fields. For instance, we know in modern physics that quantum fields organize quantum particles. We also know there are gravitational fields, electromagnetic fields, and in addition to those fields, there are also morphic fields — fields that organize the form and the behavior of animals and plants.”

Sheldrake is ” pushing forward a view that the mind is a system of fields. The fields are in the brain but they extend beyond the brain, just like the field of a magnet is inside the magnet and extends around it. And the field of your cell phone is inside your cell phone, but it extends far beyond its circuits, invisibly. I suggest that the mind is totally detached from matter and time and space.”

This is the basis of my trans-species field theory. My theory is that the fields emanating from each living being interact when they are in more intimate contact and that each field influences the other and creates this new “trans-species field”. For example the more you around your kindred spirit, the more the two of you resonate together. Many people observe that they and their dogs, cats, horses or other animals begin to mimic them, act like them and be like them in general. Now, some of that may be simply due to our animals being excellent observers of human behavior and mimic us in their own way, or it may be based on mirror neurons in our brain or may be due to resonating energetic fields. I feel it may actually be a combination of all these possibilities.

The exciting implications of these theories is that the more we become aware of the science of interconnectedness and experience how deeply we are all interconnected, we can become more sensitive and aware of how our thoughts, emotions and choices can positively impact on all other beings. When we are not aware of all the amazing connections continuously unfolding between all of us and mother earth, we just go about life doing our own thing and not feeling we can have any positive impact on what is happening in this wild and wondrous world. On the other hand, once we are aware of all these awesome connections, we can rejoice and appreciate how our choice of emanating loving kindness and compassion to all beings can actually create a happier, healthier world! May we all emanate Happy, healthy, loving fields to all beings!

Foundation for Kindred Spirits Project: Consciousness

Conscious Connections

One key foundation for the kindred spirits project is consciousness. As the new year begins, I will be sharing different concepts on the foundations of the kindred spirits project. We begin the New Year with our last post on silence and nature. This new post explores what it seems like is one real key to the foundation for all life, consciousness. It seems like one of the foundations for the interconnectedness of all beings is consciousness. I just came across this website and dvd’s called “The Consciousness Chronicles”. The Consciousness Chronicles Video offers an introduction to great thinkers who are exploring consciousness based on the latest science.I have seen some of these scientists interviewed on other documentaries and they offer a great scientific basis for uncovering the basis of consciousness based on the latest discoveries in neuroscience, quantum physics, consciousness studies and the new biology.

Wikipedia defines consciousness as “a term that refers to the relationship between the mind and the world with which it interacts.^[1] It has been defined as: subjectivity, awareness, the ability to experience or to feel, wakefulness, having a sense of selfhood, and the executive control system of the mind.^[2] Despite the difficulty in definition, many philosophers believe that there is a broadly shared underlying intuition about what consciousness is.^[3] As Max Velmans and Susan Schneider wrote in The Blackwell Companion to Consciousness: “Anything that we are aware of at a given moment forms part of our consciousness, making conscious experience at once the most familiar and most mysterious aspect of our lives.”^[4]”Wikipedia provides an excellent discussion of consciousness.

I feel that consciousness is an integral part of the deepest connections between us and all other beings. I feel that consciousness is a key component of what I call my “The Trans-species Field Theory” Some “free range” thinkers, scientists and philosophers feel that there exists a field of greater consciousness that connects us all, a collective consciousness. It has also been called a “conscious commons”. Some cutting edge thinkers believe that a field exists that some call “the information field”. Scientist and inventor, Marc Newkirk has developed some cutting edge technology that he claims can assist us in connecting to this information field, what he calls “the lightfield”. His video discussion of this and his website provide some fascinating food for thought on this subject. Some spiritual traditions have called this field “the akashic record”.

Ervin Laszlo, a leading systems theorist who was twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize is the author of “The Akashic Experience, Science and the Cosmic Memory Field” as he calls it. In this book, they state “20 leading authorities in fields such as psychiatry, physics, philosophy, anthropology, natural healing, etc. offer first hand accounts of interactions with a cosmic memory field that can transmit information to people without having to go through the senses”. There are numerous other references and thoughts on this field from all spiritual traditions. A fascinating discussion of consciousness and other deeper connections from the Tibetan Buddhist perspective is offered in a well written book titled “Mind Beyond Death” by Dzogchen Ponlop. What I find fascinating is that even though we cannot see, smell, touch, or have any physical evidence of this field, nowadays forward thinking, open minded scientists, physicists, physicians, biologists, etc. are all studying and documenting a field that our ancient traditions have taught about for centuries. It is indeed time to integrate the latest in science with the truths of ancient traditions.

How does this relate to our dear dogs, cats, horses and other animal companions? There are many people who call themselves “animal communicators”. We will discuss these labels in a future post. I actually feel we are all animal communicators. We all communicate with animals, especially ones that we are closer to and that we have an emotional, loving bond with. Some of these levels of communication are through our fives senses, observing one another, touching one another, smelling each other, hearing each others voices etc. Much of this is nonverbal communication. There seem to be even deeper levels of nonverbal communication between us and animals. Some individuals have certainly developed their personal skills to a higher level that allows them to connect with animals in ways that others are not normally aware of. I personally have experienced, seen and known of different levels of communication that defy our commonly understood scientific basis of communication. Experience turns knowledge into wisdom. Once one experiences these other levels of connection, then the next step if one wants to go there, is to try to understand them. Extremist skeptics tend to just say brush them off as “voodoo” or pseudo-science”. How often in history has something been labeled magic, voodoo, pseudoscience, garbage,etc. and then only to be documented later on. What happened to Copernicus? Galileo?

Two hearts beating together and passing together

One key principle of the Kindred Spirits Project is how we are all connected at so many different levels based on neurophysiology, quantum physics and the new biology. This touching article in the huffington post about an elderly married couple is hard wired proof of this connection from a bioelectrical basis. This couple was married for 72 years and they were then both critically injured in an automobile accident. As they were holding hands together in their hospital beds, Gordon, the husband passed away before Norma, yet his heart monitor showed that his heart was still beating. When asked about this, “The nurse told Gordon and Norma’s son, Dennis, that the monitor was beeping “because they’re holding hands, and [Norma’s heart beat] is going through them,” Dennis recalled in an interview with Des Moines’ KCCI news station. “Her heart was beating through him.” He said they always wanted to pass away together and so they did. Norma died exactly one hour later. My heart weeped with joy as I read this article.

We actually are all connected in so many different ways. I have been researching various ways to document the biological impact of people on their animal companions and vice versa. One way is to connect an animal and a human through a special computer program that can monitor both EKG (electrocardiogram) and EEG (electroencephalogram) changes in both of them. At this point this has only been done between two people, but we are developing it between animals and humans. My feeling is that when one of us calms down, the other will entrain to that slower, calmer state both in our brains and our hearts. It can be of great benefit in all interactions with our animal companions, a innovative, new biofeedback mechanism. Once we program that level of entrainment in our minds, we can connect to that in our animal friends. This may be of benefit in all equestrian activities, canine interactions as well as others.

I feel these connections go beyond just the electrophysiological connections. Based on complicated emotions of love as well as quantum physics, global coherence theory, heartmath and other approaches, it seems that we are connected through nonverbal, telepathic, nonlocal interactions that may indeed transcend time and space as well. Dr. Gary Schwartz documents some of the more far reaching perspectives about these connections in his paradigm shifting book “The Afterlife Experiments”. One of the essential components of these interactions seems to be the emotional connection of love. The actual physiologic basis of these connections is well illustrated in the story of Gordon and Norma.

Once we become totally aware of these all potential interactions and their implications we can give and receive unconditional love, peace and harmony with our kindred spirits in even more new, innovative, yet to be explored ways. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this potential.

Medmob: Global Meditation for Peace: August 28

I was excited to come across this peaceful meditation movement online (www.medmob.org) recently. It is such a joy to see the vision that I have had for animal lovers through the kindred spirits project develop separately for various groups throughout the world. It is a magnificent demonstration of the information field and the interconnectedness of consciousness. Medmob which is essentially a website organized to create mass meditation for world peace simultaneously throughout the world. This is based on the global coherence theory that we have discussed in previous posts. I imagine they are based on the flashmob theory. They state that “Our intention is to create an environment for people from all walks of life to come together in meditation. By exposing people to meditation through public display of meditation and sending positive intentions out into the world we can lead be the example.” Simple acts can change the world. As Gandhi has stated “be the change you wish to be” .

Part of the vision of the kindred spirits project is create meditative environments and meditative moments wherever animals and humans congregate together. This can be at animal shelters, animal hospitals, wildlife sanctuaries, horse barns, horse shows, organic farms, etc. I believe that regularly scheduled times of meditation among animal lovers and their animals can transform the human animal bond and through that, the world.
Perhaps this may be the first invitation to all animal lovers to begin connecting with their animal companions through meditation simultaneously throughout the world. Go to www.medmob.org and see if there is a medmob meditation in your area. If not, perhaps you may be interested in organizing one where you are or perhaps in an animal related location in your area. Perhaps your friends at an animal hospital, shelter, horse barn etc. may be interested in organizing one with you. Perhaps if there is not sufficient time for this one, we can create one through the kindred spirits project.

Mayan Elders Share Their View on 2012: Kindred Futures

Many clients, friends and blog readers often ask me what my thoughts and insights are about 2012 and all the varied predictions in regards to my mission statement and vision of the Kindred Spirits Project. You can read so many interesting and bizarre views on the internet on the subject proposing everything from predictions that it is the end of the world, cataclysm, armageddon, solar flare destruction, the blossoming of a new age, multi-dimensional shifts, consciousness shifts etc. etc. Often these refer back to the Mayan calendar as the starting point. Being a free range thinker so to speak, I pondered the question, explored the different perspectives, looked for scientific evidence for any of the theories and danced between skepticism and open minded inquisitive listening. My tentative view at this moment in time is “I don’t know”. “I don’t know”, by the way, is one of my favorite quotes from one of my old teachers, Ram Dass, former Harvard Psychology Professor and spiritual teacher, who used to find great freedom and rejoice in saying that.

Recently though, I just came across this personal letter and address by one of the key elders, Wandering Wolf, in the Mayan Culture. I found this letter and the information included in it to be more honest than anything else I have seen or heard. There is a new film being created based on the interviews with Wandering Wolf called “Shift of the Ages”. You can watch trailers for it on Youtube. I was just interviewed on their radio show by one of their visionary creators, Steve Saenz. Copernicus radio program provides members with access to creative and innovative thought leaders from a wide range of professional disciplines.

I am honored to have just been invited to become a member of the Copernicus Institute. We strive to be results-driven and action-oriented because it does not really matter how much knowledge you have; it is what you do with that knowledge that counts.”
In their vision they states that they like to “challenge the conventional wisdom”. That has been my professional journey since graduating from veterinary school. Building upon the excellent education I received at the world renowned Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, my passion was to continually explore new nontoxic, innovative options to help animals heal that did not respond to conventional medicine or surgery. The Copernicus Institute voices similar passions to the kindred spirits project, stating that “It will be known as an incubator for breakthrough thinking; a place where ideas, relationships and adventure flourish”. This is precisely what I envision for all animal lovers to come together and nourish new concepts and relationships based on a trans-species, loving supportive community.
I resonate so much with the Copernicus Institute vision. I am grateful that their stimulating questions in the interview had me reflect back on different stages of my life’s journey. I invite you to their look at their virtual tour of their website, programs and vision. I love their quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the greatest American philosophers. They state that Emerson used to greet old friends and acquaintances whom he had not seen in a while with the salutation, ‘What’s become clear to you since we last met?’ How perfect a question is that? That opens up a door to a much deeper, more intimate discussion and relationship with others. TV Interview with Dr. Karen Becker and Dr. Schoen

Dr. Karen Becker, author of “Dr. Becker’s Real Food for Healthy Dogs and Cats” and one of my absolute outstanding students interviewed me in a two part heartfelt, candid TV interview for her radio show. I thought you might be interested in watching this interview. The second part of this TV Discussion about the Kindred Spirits Project goes into the background and deeper questions that I pose on the kindred spirits project. I share with Dr. Becker, my personal spiritual journey that I based the creation of the kindred spirits project.
Dr. Becker is an excellent interviewer and brought out my deeper vision of what we are co-creating as part of the kindred spirits project. It is a joy to see younger veterinarians enthusiastically embracing the concepts of holistic integrative veterinary medicine and spreading the word to an ever widening audience. It is even more heartening to see how a new generation of veterinarians is acknowledging my theories of animal field theory, trans-species field theory and the healing power of the human animal bond.

Cosmic Consciousness within all Kindred Spirits

In this mind stimulating video, Erwin Lazlo and Deepak Chopra discuss the underlying consciousness of the entire universe, including us and all animals and plants etc. Dr. Laszlo explains that the universe is a finely tuned field of coherent resonance. He offers the computer analogy that the physical universe is the printout and the software is this vast information field. He proposes that there is a base foundation to the universe that he calls the information field. Einstein and other physicists and scientists as well as the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) all discuss this field. In ancient Hindu traditions it has been called the Akashic Field.
This theory also describes the world as a holographic universe as is described in Rumi’s quote “”We are drops in the ocean, and also the ocean in each drop”.
Deepak Chopra also explains that this field is a conscious field of potentiality and thereby a self-evolving field. In other words, each one of us with our thoughts, intentions, and emotions are part of the ever evolving universe. Hence, we actually can have an impact on how this world manifests in the future.
How does this relate to you and your animals and the future of this planet? It is very exciting to realize that our own thoughts, heart feelings, and intentions can help create a more loving compassionate universe. Fractals, Oneness and the Magic of Who We All Are

As we dance through different perspectives on how we are all connected as kindred spirits and how we create a more compassionate world, I thought this video on fractals might be interesting for readers to see a holographic perspective of our interconnectedness and the magic of who we really are at so many levels. Fractals, a base form that is within all of nature appears to document the oneness, the self is similar to all other theory. The similarity, yet the uniqueness of each of us. From tree’s branching, to flower formations, to the rams horn, sea shells, bee hives, vegetables, we are one. When I wrote “Kindred Spirits”, one of the references I used was called “Magic Tree’s of The Mind” by a neuroscientist. She used the appropriate analogy of how similar tree branches were to the neural connections in the brain. Recently, the world renowned mycologist, Paul Stamet’s demonstrated how the branching of mycelia from mushrooms was the same. We are also seeing similar patterns throughout the universe. (more…)
