Best wishes for a healthy, happy, peaceful, enlightening and awesome New Year to all my Kindred Spirits! May your New Year be blessed with inner and outer smiles and may you be able to share that joy with all beings!  By sharing our inner and outer smile and  joy with all beings we are actually part of the change, creating a healthier, happier world!  When we smile, it actually causes positive changes in our neurophysiology thereby creating more happiness for us and then for others.

I hope you have enjoyed the first year of the Kindred Spirits Project blog and that it brought joy into your life.  This has been just the beginning of helping to transform society  into a healthier, happier, more compassionate global community.  Thank you for your support, feedback and insights in 2011 and for 2012.   Let us all work and play together creating the loving, compassionate global multi-species, trans-species family that we inherently know that this world can be.

Blessings to you all! Chat in the New Year! Share and spread the cosmic Smile that transcends all beings!

P.S.  If any of these  photo’s require acknowledgement or credit to a particular person, company or whomever, please let me know and I will be glad to credit you or remove this beautiful sharing if desired.  Much gratitude to you, whomever,  for creating such  heartfelt photographs that brings joy to so many!

Celebrating the New Year With All Families, Inner and Outer

Celebration by Tom DuBois

Celebration by Tom DuBois

Celebrating and bringing in the New Year with beloved family members can nourish old bonds, heal old wounds, create new experiences and allow for support for future endeavors. Hearing, seeing and watching so many family members flying all over to connect with others families stimulated thoughts in my mind about the families closer to us as well as deeper concepts of family.  Hearing of different perspectives on the holidays, gift-giving and receiving and the “mind traffic” that can occur based on different belief systems and philosophies about this holiday season helped me appreciate all the different mind universes that live together on this planet.   Recently, I shared in a previous post about inter-species families with gorilla’s as well as all the varied species that share my sanctuary with me.

Today I came across a beautiful commentary that spoke to me regarding all these  varied observations and interactions of what family means.  This commentary is from one of my favorite books, “Glimpse After Glimpse, Daily Reflections on Living and Dying” (Harper SanFrancisco, 1995) by Sogyal Rinpoche, the author of the renowned book “The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying”.  Sogyal writes:

“Just as the ocean has waves, and the sun has rays, so the mind’s own radiance is its thoughts and emotions.  The ocean has waves, yet the ocean is not particularly disturbed by them.  The waves are the very nature of the ocean.  Waves will rise, but where do they go? Back into the ocean.  And where do the waves come from?  The ocean.

In the same manner, thoughts and emotions are the radiance and expression of the very nature of the mind.  They rise from the mind, but where do they dissolve? Back into the mind. Whatever rises, do not see it as a particular problem.  If you do not impulsively react, if you are only patient, it will once again settle into its essential nature.

When you  have this understanding, then rising thoughts only enhance your practice. But when you do not understand what they intrinsically are…the radiance of the nature of your mind….then your thoughts become the seed of confusion. So have a spacious, open, and compassionate attitude toward your thoughts and emotions, because in fact, your thoughts are your family, the family of your mind. Before them, as Dudjom Rinpoche used to say: “Be like an old wise man, watching a child play.””

Upon reading this commentary this morning, I had a totally expanded concept of family, from our inner family to our outer family of all beings on mother earth and beyond.  The inner family of our thoughts and emotions are an integral  foundation for how we relate to ourselves and all other beings.  Our thoughts and emotions which radiate naturally from us allow us to perceive and experience family in so many varied ways.  Once we recognize that, we have the opportunity to embrace a more loving compassionate  perspective on all our families, inner and outer, from our thoughts to a bloodline family to friends and to all beings that we share mother earth with.  Once we appreciate all these levels of family, we can create a more harmonious, compassionate world, again, both inner and outer. Thereby, we can have a huge impact on the health and happiness of the planet through the impact that these compassionate action steps, of cultivating our loving thoughts and emotions, can have on the conscious and emotional commons and on global coherence.  Through our positive thoughts and emotions we are making a difference in the world, thought by thought, moment by moment.  These positive thoughts and emotions can be greater gifts to our families than any material gifts.  There is great truth in the saying that the greatest gift one can offer is  being”presence” for the other being, rather than physical “presents”.

One of my many wishes for all  kindred spirits for the New Year is that may we all be blessed with a loving, peaceful, healthy, awakening, fun family of inner thoughts and emotions and may they all be blessings to all other outer family members that truly transcend all labels!

Duality vs. Oneness With All Beings

Heart Connections

Occupy Love

I came across this video, Occupy Love, occupylove.org  that has assisted me in appreciating a much more expansive view of all the unfolding events around the occupy movement.  This is not meant to be a political blog or anything of the sort.   The video actually addresses one of the goals of this blogsite,  “How to create a more compassionate, heart based society”.   I have heard many of the polarized perspectives on what is happening and found myself asking questions such as “what is the bigger picture?” and what really are the “best questions” to be explored if we are searching to create a more compassionate society for the benefit of all beings.

I personally do not believe that polarization of “us vs. them” in any shape or form is not necessarily beneficial for anyone.  It is a form of duality that pits one against another, stating one side wins the other side loses.  Perhaps my idealistic naive side of myself is showing up too much today, yet it seems that we can truly make situations a win/win for all parties involved, if that is indeed the primary intention.  What might be beneficial to accomplish this though, is to see if we are indeed buy levaquin uk asking the right questions.  The concept of “occupy love”  is a much more inclusive, positive perspective that encompasses all beings, including all our animal friends.  If we “occupy love” or “be love”, we come from a different part of our brain.  We actually stimulate the release of different neurotransmitters and neurohormones.  We feel different, see differently, think differently and thereby wire our brains differently.  We actually see with new eyes so to speak.  We actually give our brains and our hearts a “love” tune-up so to speak.  This is also what happens when we share our lives with our animal companions. It is like a virtual “love” tune-up to our hearts and minds.

So dear kindred spirits, I share this brief youtube video in hopes of stimulating positive neurotransmitters and neurohormones and offering you a day filled with more loving, compassionate thoughts and feelings for all beings.  Perhaps we can go forth in our day with more compassion for others who we may not necessarily see eye to eye with, but respect them realizing we are all looking for the same thing, to be loved.  What does it feel like inside you to “occupy love”?

Medmob: Global Meditation for Peace: August 28

I was excited to come across this peaceful meditation movement online (www.medmob.org) recently. It is such a joy to see the vision that I have had for animal lovers through the kindred spirits project develop separately for various groups throughout the world. It is a magnificent demonstration of the information field and the interconnectedness of consciousness. Medmob which is essentially a website organized to create mass meditation for world peace simultaneously throughout the world. This is based on the global coherence theory that we have discussed in previous posts. I imagine they are based on the flashmob theory. They state that “Our intention is to create an environment for people from all walks of life to come together in meditation. By exposing people to meditation through public display of meditation and sending positive intentions out into the world we can lead be the example.” Simple acts can change the world. As Gandhi has stated “be the change you wish to be” .

Part of the vision of the kindred spirits project is create meditative environments and meditative moments wherever animals and humans congregate together. This can be at animal shelters, animal hospitals, wildlife sanctuaries, horse barns, horse shows, organic farms, etc. I believe that regularly scheduled times of meditation among animal lovers and their animals can transform the human animal bond and through that, the world.
Perhaps this may be the first invitation to all animal lovers to begin connecting with their animal companions through meditation simultaneously throughout the world. Go to www.medmob.org and see if there is a medmob meditation in your area. If not, perhaps you may be interested in organizing one where you are or perhaps in an animal related location in your area. Perhaps your friends at an animal hospital, shelter, horse barn etc. may be interested in organizing one with you. Perhaps if there is not sufficient time for this one, we can create one through the kindred spirits project.
Let me know what you think and feel and let us begin this momentous movement for world peace through the love of animals now!

We Are the Crest of the Wave: Kindred Connections Healing our Hearts

Dear Kindred Spirits:
It looks like we are riding the crest of a new wave.  In my last book, “Kindred Spirits, How the Remarkable Bond Between Humans and Animals Can Change the Way We Live”, I shared my vision of the human animal bond over ten years ago.  On this site, we share the 21st century perspective on where we are now and where we can go in creating a more compassionate society for all beings.  It seems like our thoughts, attention and intention are indeed working.  Just this week, Yes magazine came out with their new issue on how animals can save us.  yesmagazineanimalscansaveusSimultaneously, the New York Times just came out with an entire section called “Animals, The Creature Connection”,  requesting that people send in video’s of their connections with animals. The Huffington Post has had a section on Animals and animal video’s for a while now. One article was just published on the benefit of animals for Diabetics.  In addition, I was just interviewed for a radio show on the benefits of animals for cancer patients and was asked to be part of a new documentary on how animals can be of benefit for cancer patients.  Even the Village Voice has a brief article on the tragedy in Japan and how it is effecting one kitten and then says…”make sure to hug your cat”. The picture breaks my heart and I feel such sadness for all the homeless animals that somehow are dealing with this tragedy as well.  It seems like the hundredth monkey principle has happened. Japan’s Earthquake: Healing Shaken Hearts

May the thoughts and prayers of all kindred spirits reading this blog go out to our brothers and sisters and their animal companions that were devastated by the unpredictable movements of Mother Nature at this time.
Kumano Kodo Ancient Pilgrimage Path
I have been in contact with my Japanese friends who instantly became kindred spirits when I was teaching and offering workshops and retreats there. Fortunately, through emails and skype I hear that they are safe and sound. There is a wonderful group in Japan called the Japanese Animal Wellness Association who bring together animal lovers throughout Japan. We all wish them and their animal companions peace, health and wellness throughout this journey.

Based on the understanding of the theory of Global Coherence and how we are all connected, I could feel the quiver “in the force” (using the Star Wars metaphor), of all the trauma at many levels. Personally, I feel those quivers, disruptions, quaking in the force more and more throughout the planet these days as we experience the quickening of the shifts of nature, environmentally, economically, politically and within each and every being. It does indeed appear that the shifts and changes are increasing in number, intensity, frequency. What can one do, so many ask. Continue reading Japan’s Earthquake: Healing Shaken Hearts

Kindred Hearts: Global Coherence

Kindred Hearts: Global Coherence

It seems appropriate that for February, 2011, we dedicate the Kindred Spirits Project to focusing on connecting with our animal companions through our heart connections. There actually is quite a bit of evidence documenting that human hearts radiate an electromagnetic field that is measureable. Much of this research and documentation is presented by a cutting edge website and group called the Global Coherence Initiative (www.globalcoherenceinitiative. com). One of their members, Dr. Rollin McCraty has proposed three major hypotheses that synthesize the relationship between human beings and earth’s electromagnetic fields as well as the solar energetic fields. His hypotheses are:
Hypothesis No. 1: All living things are interconnected and we communicate with each other via biological, and electromagnetic fields.
Hypothesis No. 2: Not only are humans affected by planetary energetic fields, but conversely the earth’s energetic systems are also influenced by collective human emotions and consciousness. Much of the planetary field environment is made up of the collective consciousness of the inhabitants.
Hypothesis No. 3: Large numbers of people intentionally creating heart-coherent states of care, love, compassion and appreciation can generate a coherent standing wave that will help offset the current planetary wave of stress, discord and incoherence.
We will discuss each of these individually in future blog posts.
Based on my studies in these fields, his hypotheses and my nearly 33 years as a veterinarian interacting daily with all creatures great and small, I am proposing a theory that I call the “Trans-species Field Theory”. After years of experiencing various energetic effects in numerous horse barns, animal hospitals, animal shelters and wherever human and nonhuman animals interact, I had always felt a certain energetic interaction between all of us. I could not put my finger on it so to speak, and there did not seem to be adequate science available to explain what I was feeling, nor appropriate language to explain the feelings. After studying the latest in quantum physics, electromagnetic fields, unified field theory and neuroscience, I feel like there is sufficient documentation to propose this theory now.
If they can now measure the electromagnetic fields emitted by human hearts, I thought, a horse’s heart is so much larger, what sort of field does that emit? What about dog and cat heart field emissions? What about other animals? I then pondered how do all these fields interact when we are in intimate contact with them. I was wondering what effect our heart fields have on their heart fields and vice versa. I suddenly had these images of all these fields interacting and impacting on each other, whether it was in a barn or an animal hospital. Then I pondered, how that might impact on the general feeling of the place. Then I remembered being in different barns or different hospitals and how the feelings of each one varied from quite hectic, sometimes chaotic to others that were quite harmonious. Could these trans-species field interactions be impacting on those feelings? If so, how could one improve the feelings in one in order to make it more harmonious, more peaceful? ……
